PrEP+ : NYC’s Hottest LGBTQ+ Party
WORDS BY : NOAH PHAM
Frank Ocean, the 21st century’s cultural touchstone for marginalized communities, has sparked another illumination within his realm. Under his creative alias Blonded, Frank announced his inaugural club party in New York, PrEP+. Titled after the drug taken to prevent individuals from contracting HIV/AIDS, with the party Frank intends to bring back the ’80s queer nightlife — something that AIDS extinguished during one of the darkest eras for the LGBTQ+ community.
His second party wrapped up this past weekend with sets by Arca, Shyboi, Leeon and Papi Juice, with strict rules as followed: no photos or videos are allowed; consent is mandatory; zero tolerance for racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, ableism, etc; and the dance floor is for dancing.
Frank has also trickled in snippets of new music and merchandise since announcing his club nights. Is this a hint for a new album on the way? Since his first night for PrEP+, producers from the greats, such as Justice and Sango, dropped these new tunes live for the club only.
And keep your eyes out … We hear there’s a third party happening for Halloween. Details to be released early Thursday AM.
